SNE Research, a new energy market research organization, recently released a report on the power battery industry, which is based on the global power battery usage from January to May 2023.
The data shows that the global power battery usage from January to May 2023 will be 237.6GWh, a year-on-year increase of 52.3%.
The battery companies ranked TOP10 are: CATL, BYD, LG New Energy, Panasonic, SK On, CALB, Samsung SDI, Gotion, EVE Lithium Energy, Sunwoda.

As can be seen from the above table, from January to May 2022, the total market share of the six Chinese battery companies was 56.1%, and from January to June 2023, it increased to 62.7%, a full increase of 6.6%.
Among them, BYD's market share increased the most, from 11.8% to 16.1%, an increase of 4.3%.
The market share of the three Korean battery companies fell from 25.8% to 23.3%.
Japan's Panasonic's market share fell from 8.9% to 8%.
Of course, one thing is that the year-on-year data of all 10 battery companies are all positive growth.
The two companies with the fastest growth rate and doubled year-on-year are EVE Lithium Energy and BYD, reaching 150.7% and 107.8% respectively.
This is due to the rapid growth of the new energy vehicle market.
However, there are also five companies whose year-on-year growth rate is flat or lower than the average year-on-year growth rate of 52.3%.
They are Panasonic, SK On, Samsung SDI, Gotion and Sunwoda.
The CATL, which tops the list, has a year-on-year growth rate of 59.6%, an installed capacity of 86.2GWh, and a market share of 36.3%, continuing to maintain its leading position.
It is reported that CATL has achieved good results because its power batteries are widely used in many popular models at home and abroad (such as Tesla Model 3 / Y, GAC Aian Y, NIO ET5, SAIC MG Mulan and some commercial vehicles) , effectively promoting the continuous growth of CATL's market share.
CATL has ranked first in the world's power battery installed capacity for six consecutive years.
BYD's market share is now second at 16.1%, while South Korean manufacturer LG New Energy ranks third with a market share of 13.9%, overtaken by BYD.
It is worth mentioning that BYD batteries are highly competitive in terms of price, and its Atto 3 (Yuan PLUS, overseas version) models continue to expand market share in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, enabling BYD's battery share to achieve "explosive growth".
Japan's Panasonic ranks fourth, and it was recently reported that Panasonic needs to build about four new factories by fiscal year 2030 to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle batteries.
SK On ranked fifth, and its market share fell by 2.1 percentage points compared with the same period last year. It is reported that SK On received US$944 million in financing in May to increase global battery production capacity.
Among the 6-10 rankings, the sixth CALB has a strong upward momentum, and it has entered the top five in the monthly vehicle loading ranking for many times.
EVE Lithium Energy ranked ninth with the fastest year-on-year growth rate. Its power battery customers include Daimler, BMW, GAC Aion, Xiaopeng and other auto companies.
