As renewable adoption accelerates, the Energy Storage Battery has become the foundation of every Energy Storage System. To design or manage such systems effectively, it is essential to understand the technical parameters that define battery performance. At XIHO Energy, we believe three indicators—DOD, SOC, and SOH—are central to unlocking reliable storage solutions.
Battery Capacity (Ah)
Capacity measures how much energy a battery can deliver. For example, a 48V 100Ah cell equals 4.8 kWh. Capacity values are usually divided into rated, theoretical, and actual capacity. In practical use, actual capacity is always influenced by temperature, charge/discharge rate, and cycle conditions.
Nominal Voltage (V)
Nominal voltage defines the standard operating voltage. In packs, cells are connected in series (increasing voltage) or parallel (increasing capacity). A 24S pack of 3.2V cells equals 76.8V nominal voltage, which directly impacts system design.
C-rate (Charge/Discharge Rate)
C-rate determines how fast a battery can charge or discharge. For instance, a 200Ah battery discharged at 100A equals 0.5C, emptying in two hours. This is often reflected in large Energy Storage Systems, where designers use MW/MWh ratings.
Depth of Discharge (DOD)
DOD is the percentage of energy withdrawn in one cycle. Higher DOD increases usable energy but reduces cycle life. For long-term operation, engineers usually recommend partial discharges to balance usability and lifespan.
State of Charge (SOC)
SOC measures remaining energy, ranging from 0% (empty) to 100% (full). SOC helps operators know how much energy is available at any given moment.
State of Health (SOH)
SOH evaluates the current performance compared to the battery’s original condition. When capacity drops below 80%, replacement is recommended. Monitoring SOH ensures system stability and reduces risks.
In short, parameters like DOD, SOC, and SOH are not abstract—they are the language of battery performance. With XIHO Energy, you gain deeper insight into these values and the expertise to apply them in building a stable, future-ready Energy Storage System.
